SEAT is the short form of the Spanish name “Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo” which means “Spanish Passenger Car Company” in English. It is an Automobile Manufacturing Company, founded by Instituto Nacional de Industria in 1950. Its Head Office is located at the Martorell in Barcelona of Spain. Initially the company was running with assistance from the Fiat car manufacturing company. Thus the initial products of the company was reproduced Fiat models with different name and a little different in look from the previous ones. The Fiat car, Fiat Panda was reproduced by the company and named as SEAT Panda. Later it was changed to SEAT Marbella. It was known as the largest Automobile Company in the Spain by 1967. Soon Fiat increased its share in the company up to 36 percent from 6 percent, where as the government holding was reduced to 32 percent from a majority 51 percent. The rest of the shares were taken by six different banks. As the Fiat possessed the majority shares holding of the company, it controlled the business thereafter. Later in 1981, Fiat withdrew its holdings in the company. The company signed a agreement with the Audi AG’s subsidiary Volkswagen Group for cooperation with the SEAT. Volkswagen Group became the majority shareholder of the company in 1986 and also became the owner of the company in 1990 by holding all the shares of the company. After the Volkswagen Group owned the company, it began producing its own model cars as per the policies of the new company. Its new products were well adopted by outside of Europe after remodeling and renaming its old models. In South Africa the SEAT Ibiza was renowned as the Volkswagen Polo Playa, the SEAT Inca was known as the Volkswagen Caddy and also the SEAT Cordoba was recognized as the Volkswagen Polo Classic. SEAT was having limited market in the Tobago and Trinidad in between 1992 and 2004. The Terra LCV, was the first SEAT product sold in the Trinidad. The Ibiza and the Cordoba models of SEAT were among the dominant of the Trinidad market for a short time. SEAT forced to pull back from the market of Trinidad and Tobago during the end of 2004 due to its poor sale in those places. In December 2008, SEAT manufactured its first Executive car the SEAT Execo, which was lunched in April 2009 in United Kingdom.
