The Pontiac is a subsidiary brand automaker of General Motors. The company was founded in 1926. The headquarters of the company are situated at Detroit, USA. The brand name Pontiac is taken from the name of Chief Pontiac. The General Motors Corporation produced the Pontiac cars and within a few days, it touched the high selling rate. The initial model of the Pontiac was equipped with the 3.1 L engine, 40 hp power, and six cylinders with the straight head. The stroke of the vehicle was also the smallest one. The vehicle hit the marked with the selling rate of about 39 thousand in just six months of time. And pretty soon, the Pontiac was placed in the top six models in America. The car model was modified and came to the market with a straight 8-cylinder engine and soon liked among the buyers due to its cheap price. However, in the 1930s, the Pontiac cars were not considered as the powerful vehicles. Other disadvantages were the low compression ratio, heavy weight and elongated one. Around 1948, the Pontiac models came with the Hydramatic automatic transmission. And the Pontiac which is also called as the Torpedoes became unpopular soon. But the advanced and newly designed model of the Pontiac was offered in 1949 with a stylish look to cover the failure of the Pontiac old models. The company offered new car models with the new V8 engine and 173 hp engines in 1955. It helped the company to gain the selling of the cars. The Bonneville model was offered in late 1960s, which was called as the America’s no.1 road car due to its high selling among the buyers. The Pontiac Astre GT model was quite attractive for the Canadian people. The selling of the car hit the market almost four years. The Pontiac offered the Phoenix, replacing the old model Ventura. Another car called Iron Duke was also offered with the 4-cylinder valve in 1977 as well. Another major hit from the Pontiac was the Fiero model, which attracted the buyers for many years since the year 1984. And soon the Pontiac became the third highest domestic automaker. After 1990, the Pontiac model was equipped with the 3.4 L, V6 engine with the 200hp power. But the Trans Am model was equipped with the 275 hp, V8, 5.7 L, T-56 speed manual engine and was offered in the 1993 to make competition with the other automakers. However the models Trans Am, Fire bird were not liked by the buyers during 2002. the Pontiac G8, Montana and Pursuit are some of the Pontiac new models in the current scenario.
