The Mercury is an automobile brand of the Ford Motor organization, founded in the year 1939 by Edsel Ford, who was son of Henry Ford. He began marketing of the starting level luxurious cars slotted between Lincoln brand luxury models and the Ford brand luxury models, which were similar to creation of the Chrysler brand and the General Motor’s Buick. At present, all the Mercury cars are designed based on the platform of Ford. The name Mercury is derived from the Roman mythology, meaning messenger of the gods. The brand was known for its performance during the early years of its release. The brand Mercury is used in the countries like United States, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and in several countries of the Middle East too. The Mercury brand was dropped in the year 1999, in the Canadian market. Though the brand was dropped with the Mercury badge, it was still marketed by the Grand Marquis. The present models of Mercury brand include Mercury Sable, which was in production during the period 1986 to 2005 as mid size car and it was produced as full sized car from the year 2008. The others in the line-up include Mercury Milan from 2006, Mercury Mountaineer from the year 1997, Mercury Grand Marquis from the year 1983 and the Mercury Mariner from the year 2005. The recent models from the mercury brand include Mercury Monterey minivan during the period 2004 to 2007, Mercury Marauder muscle sedan produced from 2003 to 2004, Mercury Montego a full size sedan produced during the period 2005 to 2007, Mercury Villager from 1993 to 2002 as a minivan and the Mercury Cougar sports coupe during the periods 1967 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2002. The range of Mercury as of the year 2008 is small and quite similar to the models sold under the Ford brand. There was a doubt in the industry people whether the brand will continue for a long time or not, the sources from the Ford insists that there is no matter of letting the brand go off. The company’s alliance with the Lincoln group helped the brand to keep alive. Taking this into consideration, the Mercury began designing the elements normal to all of the vehicles from their brand to develop more unified marque.
