Mazda Motor Corporation is an automobile manufacturing company from Japan. The headquarters of the company are located in Hiroshima, Japan. In the year 2007, nearly 1.3 million vehicles were produced by Mazda and sold all over the world. Nearly 1 million cars among these were produced by the factories, which were located in Japan, while remaining came from its other factories located outside Japan. Some say that the name of the company is derived from the name of its founder Jujiro Matsuda, who was very much interested in spirituality. In the honour of the family and Zoroastrianism, he changed the name of the company to Mazda. Mazda is the word derived from the language of divinity proclaimed by the Prophet Zoroaster from Iran. The name of the language is Ahura Mazda. But in Japan it is always pronounced as the name of its founder Matsuda. In 1920, when the company was found in Japan the name of the company was Toyo Cork Kogyo Company Limited. Later in 1927, it was changed to Toyo Kogyo Company Limited. In 1931 Toyo Kogyo changed its business form making Machine Tools to the production of vehicles. The first vehicle that Mazda produced was the Mazda-Go. Throughout Second World War, Toyo Kogyo produced weapons for the military of Japan. Most of them produced by Toyo Kogyo happened to be Type 99 Rifles. In 1984, Toyo Kogyo changed the name to Mazda. Even though they changed the name of the company to Mazda in 1984, every vehicle from the company had the name Mazda in its name since the beginning. It was proved that a vehicle which was released in 1960 had a name Mazda R360 and the one which released in 1962 bore the name Mazda Carol. In the early years of 1960s, Mazda used very much effort in developing Wankel Rotary Engine to differentiate themselves from other automobile companies of Japan. At present Mazda is the sole producer of Wankel type engines. They are using Wankel Engines since 1967 in Cosmo Sport to the present day vehicle RX-8. The efforts that they made in producing Wankel Engines, made them popular all over the world and they started to export Mazda vehicles everywhere. Both Rotary Powered and piston powered models of the engine were exported all over the world. In the year 1970, Mazda entered the market of North America. It was a successful attempt and the success range was great that Mazda started producing piston powered models only for the customers of North America.
