Land Rover is a Multi-Purpose vehicle manufacturing brand, which was founded in England and now operating under the business of Jaguar Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors (India). Earlier the name Land Rover was used only for the vehicle, which was an initiating civilian utility vehicle launched on 30th of April, 1948. It was exhibited at the Amsterdam Motor Show. The term Land Rover was also used for other vehicles, which had 4 wheels. Land Rover started as a model in the company of Rover. Later Land Rover initially developed as a brand and then as another company. The company gained the ability of producing a chain of four wheelers below the sequence of owners of companies such as BMW, British Aerospace and British Leyland. In the year 2000, BMW sold the company to Ford Motor Company. It became a part of Premier Automotive Group of Ford Motor Company. In the year 2008, Land Rover and Jaguar were sold by Ford to Tata Motors. Land Rover is one among the longest surviving four-wheeler brand, which is closest to the position of Jeep. In 1948, the Land Rover was first designed by Maurice Wilks in United Kingdom. Maurice was the chief engineer for Rover which was a British car company. He built the Land Rover on his farm which was in Newborough, Anglesey. He said that Land Rover was an inspiration from the Jeep which was used in World War II. He used Jeep once when he went to his holiday house which was in Wales. The first model of the Land Rover named as Centre Steer was based on the chassis of Jeep. The body of the Land Rover is built with a metal called Birmabright. It is a light-weighted rust proof metal which is an alloy of Magnesium and Aluminum. This metal is used in building the body of Land Rover is that there is a shortage of steel after the war and plenty of aluminum from aircrafts. One of the factors which led to choose Birmabright to build Land Rover’s body is that the metal is resistant to corrosion. In the year 2007, on June 11th announcement was made by Ford Motor Company that they are planning to sell Land Rover along with Jaguar. Ford continued the use of the services of HSBC, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs for advising Ford about the details of the sale deal of Land Rover and Jaguar.
