Dodge Dakota

Dakota means friend or ally in the Sioux language. Produced by Chrysler, the Dakota is a mid-sized pickup truck sold under the Dodge brand. Along with the redesigned Ram, it was introduced in 1987. It has been built to be sized aboved similar competitors such as the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S10, but smaller than the Ram, making it the only midsize pickup to feature an optional V8 engine. Designed with body-on-frame construction and leaf spring live axle real end, this was the first work truck to feature rack and pinion steering. Chrysler shared many of the Dakotas components with pre existing models, to make it a very affordable vehicle. First Generation: 1987 - 1996 Four wheel drive was only available on the 6 cylinder model, though they were also produced with a straight 4. Long and short beds were offered, as well as 4 or 5 speed manual transmissions. Fuel injection was added to the V6, though the output remained the same.
