Dodge is a common brand name for the trucks, sport vehicles, minivans, and automobiles manufactured by the Chrysler LLC. Its headquarters are based at Auburn Hills, Michigan in United States of America. The manufacturing and marketing is spread in about 60 countries in the world. This company was originally founded by the Dodge Brothers John and Horace Dodge to manufacture and supply auto parts and other accessories for the growing auto industry in 1900. Later in 1914, it started making its own motor vehicles. Moreover, Dodge Model 30, a 4-cylinder model car was the first model of the company. Until 1920 the cars manufactured by the Dodge Company retained the second place in the U.S.A. but unluckily John Dodge died of pneumonia in January that year and Horace Dodge died of cirrhosis in the last month of that year. The company was sold by the widows of the Dodge Brothers in 1925 as the company stepped down to the fifth place in the automobile industry in U.S. Again in 1928, this brand name was sold to the Chrysler Corporation as the position of the brand name was again dropped down to the 7th place. The Chrysler Corporation was eagerly waiting for the acquisition of the Dodge brand name. Not only the brand name but also the large dealer network and the factory attracted the Chrysler to take over the Dodge. The Chrysler produced two series of thirteen models during the beginning of the 1930 and its price was just over the price of DeSoto, Chrysler’s own product. Later during the end of the 1930s, the company added the new 8-cylinder concept for the Dodge cars side by side with the old 6-cylinder models. The dual 6 and 8 cylinder system continued until 1934. During the World War II, the Chrysler Corporation produced Dodge cars and trucks for both the citizens and the soldiers for military use. During 1942 to 1945, the Corporation was busy in production of the war materials for the country. This industry faced a crisis when U.S. hit by the oil crisis in 1973 and the profit of the company turned into loss. The K-Car was manufactured by the Chrysler as a crash growth plan. During 1980s, the mid-sized 600, the turbocharged Daytona and the sporty renewal of Lancer were the admired models of Dodge. In 1998, the Chrysler Corporation formed a coalition with the Daimler-Benz AG and formed a new brand name, DaimlerChrysler.
